IAY AND NREGA: REVIEW OF BPL ROLES UNDERWAY TO REACH OUT TO REAL NEEDY

Lakshmikantapur: Wednesday, January 27, 2010.

Anomalies and misrepresentation of target beneficiaries remained major hindrances in reaching out to the real needy downtroddens at the bottom of the rural society with facilities and funds in terms of Centrally sponsored schemes such as NREGA and Indira Awas Yojana in many a rural, interior pockets of West Bengal. Mandirbazar Panchayat Samiti and South 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad have now undertaken remedial measures to review and finalise fresh BPL rolls so that only the eligibles could get financial grants for home, hundred days mandatory job in a year and other basic infrastructure. Shri Goutam Gayen and other Zilla Parishad members in charge of vital departments gave this assurance at Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign here today.

Two separate interactive seminars on various rural development projects involving main components such as NREGA, IAY, Rajiv Gandhi Bidyutikaran, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, etc. and another one on RTI Act were held today on the last day of this five-day campaign.

Shri Ananda Halder, Karmadhakshya (Housing), Mandirbazar Panchayat Samiti answered many a question from public that comprised of a large number of villagers with regard to implementation of 100-days Job Scheme. Those who were not getting daily job even after abnormally long period of enlistment in the NREGA rolls were also advised for remedial steps. Shri Piyar Ali Laskar, Karmadhakshya (Electricity) of the same panchayat samiti are regretted that the State Government got up very late to launch Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bidyutikaran Scheme even after getting a huge grant of Rs.200 crore. That is why the work on rural electrification was lagging behind vis-à-vis other states.

Shri Santanu Palodhi, Addl. Director General (M&C), PIB coordinated and conducted the deliberations. Informing the grass-root beneficiaries of remedial measures who have failed in availing the extended components of Centrally Sponsored schemes is the thrust of such interactive sessions, he said. Shri Rakibur Rehman, BDO, Mandirbazar, Shri Mrinal Kanti Naiya, Fisheries Extension Officer, in the block both explained to the members of audience various formalities of availing these schemes. Both of them also deliberated on RTI queries' filing formalities and getting their redressal. Shri Sandipon Dasgupta, Field Publicity Officer, DFP explained the main features of the RTI Act and guided the villagers in getting appropriate answers with respect to their RTI applications within the stipulated period of 30 days failing which the responsible officers in charge would be penalised with personal cash fine and other disciplinary action.
