Addressing an awareness seminar on both the schemes here this evening at the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign, Shri Sougata Roy, Joint BDO said, out of the 131 primary institutions in the block, about 100 have already been provided with the Mid-day Meal provisions thereby effectively controlling the rate of drop-out students. Shri Satyaranjan Tanti, Supervisor, Mid-day Meal scheme in the block, conceded to the fact that number of complaints with regard to the quality and quantity of food provided under the scheme are still high. Efforts at the district and block level towards remedial measures were already in progress to resolve the issue with active help of dedicated NGOs and proven SHGs. Shri Dilip Kumar Jatua, and Smt. Malati Sardar, Sabhapati and Karmadhakshya respectively of Mandirbazar Panchayat Samity highlighted the problems faced by the BPL parents and children in enrolment and regular attendance of schools. To supplement this assertion Shri Roy informed Mandirbazar was at the fag end among the 29 blocks in the district when the Sarvashiksha Abhiyan provisions were introduced. Presently the block has improved its position rising to the 14th slot.
