Amitabh Thakur (IPS), a Karmayog member, has just been elected the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Kho-kho Association.
(Read his email at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/karmayog/message/59540)

Kho Kho is one of the most popular traditional sports in India (it is played by teams of twelve players who try to avoid being touched by members of the opposing team).

Vidyadhar Date, in his November 22 article in the Economic and Political Weekly, says that "The competitive frenzy for winning in sports has been fuelled by aggressive marketing. Society is now turning sportspeople into super-brands. Ordinary people, however, are denied elementary sports facilities and are reduced to being mere viewers of events on television."

Please email suggestions to us for Mr. Thakur and others (govt. officials, teachers, parents, coaches, etc.)
    a) to encourage participation in various sports (including modification of government policies)
    b) ideas reg. kho-kho itself
    c) your own experience regarding the difficulty of pursuing a sport that you liked

Regards,

Vinay
