DFP INVOLVES VILLAGERS IN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Lakshmikantapur: Sunday, January 24, 2010.

The mass awareness wing of the Union Government, Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) has taken up a series of events and initiatives to involve large scale rural people in the ongoing five-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign in the Mathurapur area of South 24-Parganas district. The directorate conducted sessions on poetry recital, quiz and a sit-and-draw competition involving grownups and children alike in the publicity campaign of the rural development schemes sponsored by the Government of India and implemented locally by the district administration and panchayat bodies. The drawing session, divided into two sessions of elderly and children of Bijoygunj Bazar and neighbouring villages, saw 110 participants who eagerly depicted welfare schemes such as ICDS, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and Mid-Day Meal Schemes, the Prime Minister's New 15-Point Programme for Welfare of Minorities, Electricity, Irrigation, Shelter and Infrastructure in rural India.

Empanelled magicians and cultural troupes of the Song and Drama Division also held their shows at the event auditorium to attract a large number of participants in the DFP awareness campaign.

DFP began its participation in this, the 16th Public Information Campaign in West Bengal during the last four years, Bharat Nirman PIC with the cycle rally of school students, youths and other villagers yesterday afternoon. Banners, posters and placards depicting finer points of the rural welfare schemes were displayed on this occasion. The rally led by Addl. Director General, Shri Debanjan Chakraborty, Director in New Delhi DFP, Smt. Ranjana Debsharma was flagged off in the afternoon in presence of top representatives of the local self government and Addl. Director General of Press Information Bureau, Kolkata Shri Santanu Palodhi. The rally marked beginning of the five-day joint campaign by media agencies of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this peripheral region of the Sunderbans.

Housewives, young girls and the elderly villagers came out for the poetry recital and quiz segments of the second half of today's campaign at the main auditorium of the PIC being held at Natter Math Grounds near Lakshmikantapur. Winners of all the three competitions will be adjudged by a panel of communication experts and panchayat representatives later during the campaign and awarded suitably. The local panchayat representatives include Smt. Anima Naskar, Pradhan of Ghateswar Gram Panchayat. Smt Naskar's designation was erroneously mentioned as the Pradhan of Ghateswar Zilla Parishad. The error is regretted.
