Special Economic Zones approved in States
New Delhi: February 25, 2010.

           In addition to the Seven Central Government SEZs and 12
State/ Private Sector SEZs set up prior to the enactment of SEZ Act,
2005, formal approval have been accorded to 571 proposals out of which
348 SEZs have been notified. A total of 105 SEZs are already
exporting.
           Total exports of Rs.99,689 crore have been made from SEZs
during the financial year 2008-09 registering a growth of 50% over the
exports for the same period of the previous year.  Exports from SEZs
during the first three quarters of the current financial year have
been to the tune of Rs.1,52,092.68 crore registering a growth of about
127% over the exports for the same period of the previous financial
year.
           The fiscal concessions are in built into the SEZ Act,
2005.  The Units in the SEZs are allowed duty free goods for setting
up SEZ Units, exemption from Service Tax, Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT),
Central Sales Tax etc.  SEZ Units are allowed 100% Income Tax
exemption on export income under Section 10AA of the Income Tax Act
for first 5 years, 50% for next 5 years thereafter and 50% of the
ploughed back export profit for next 5 years. Also, sales into
Domestic Tariff Area by SEZ Units attract all duties including
Countervailing Duties.

Wholesale Price Indices for Primary Articles and Fuel, Power, Light &
Lubricants in India (Base: 1993-94=100)
Review for the week ended 13th February, 2010 (24 Magha, 1931, 1926 Saka)
New Delhi: February 25, 2010.

The WPI for the week ended 13th February, 2010 in respect of 'Primary
Articles and 'Fuel, Power, Light & Lubricants' is given below:

PRIMARY ARTICLES (Weight 22.02%)

The WPI for the week ended 13th February, 2010 declined by 0.45
percent to 284.5 (Provisional) from 285.8 (Provisional) for the
previous week.

The annual rate of inflation, calculated on point to point basis,
stood at 15.84 percent (Provisional) for the week ended 13/02/2010
(over 14/02/2009) as compared to 16.23 percent (Provisional) for the
previous week (ended 06/02/2010) and 6.23 percent during the
corresponding week (ended14/02/2009) of the previous year.

The groups and items for which the index showed variations during the
week are as follows:-

The index for  'Food Articles'  group declined by  0.45  percent to
286.2 (Provisional) from 287.5  (Provisional) for the previous week
due to lower prices of tea (3%), masur, gram and fruits & vegetables
(2% each) and arhar, moong and barley (1% each).   However, the prices
of bajra and urad (1% each) moved up.

The index for  'Non-Food Articles'  group declined by 0.51 percent to
256.0 (Provisional) from 257.3  (Provisional) for the previous week
due to lower prices of logs & timber (9%), soyabean (5%) and rape &
mustard seed and fodder (1% each).  However, the prices of coir fibre
(55%), mesta (13%) and raw silk, gingelly seed, castor seed and copra
(1% each) moved up.

FUEL, POWER, LIGHT & LUBRICANTS (Weight 14.23%)

The index for this major group remained unchanged at its previous
week's level of 355.5 (Provisional).

The annual rate of inflation based on final index, calculated on point
to point basis remained unchanged at its previous week's level of 9.89
percent (Provisional) and it was (-)3.98 percent during the
corresponding week (ended 14/02/09) of the previous year.

is given below for some important items.
