Biennial Elections to the Council of States to fill the seats of
members retiring in April, 2010

February 22, 2010
The term of office of 13 members of the Rajya Sabha elected
from 6 States is due to expire on their retirement in April, 2010 as
detailed below :-

A statement showing the names of the members retiring as
mentioned above is given in the Appendix.
2. Out of the five seats to be filled from Punjab three are to be
filled by holding one election and other two through another election
as these seats belong to two different biennial cycles.
3. The Election Commission has decided that the aforesaid biennial
elections to the Council of States from the above States shall be held
in accordance with the following programme:-.
Issue of Notifications 9th March, 2010 (Tuesday)
Last date of making nominations 16th March, 2010 (Tuesday)
Scrutiny of nominations 17th March, 2010 (Wednesday)
Last date for withdrawal of candidatures 19th March, 2010 (Friday)
Date of poll 26th March, 2010 (Friday)
Hours of poll 9.00 A.M. to 4.00 P.M
Counting of Votes 26th March, 2010 (Friday) at 5.00 PM
Date before which election shall be completed 29th March, 2010 (Monday)
