New Delhi: February 24, 2010
While presenting the Railway Budget for the year 2010-2011 in the Lok
Sabha today, the Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee has

Frequency of 12 Trains Increased; 21 Trains Extended
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee has announced that
frequency of 12 trains is proposed to be increased. Presenting the
Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament today, she also said that it

Concessions for Cancer Patients, Film Technicians and Press Correspondents
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today proposed to
enhance the concession to cancer patients upto 100% in 3 AC and
Sleeper Class. Presenting the Railway Budget 2010-11 in Parliament,
the Minister said at present Railways grant a concession of 75% in 3
AC and Sleeper Class to cancer patients going for treatment, together
with an escort.
She also proposed that technicians of regional film industry when
traveling for film production related work will be eligible for 75%
concession in Second Sleeper, 50% concession in First Class, AC Chair
Car, AC 3 tier, AC 2 tier in all trains including Rajdhani/Shatabdi
and Jan Shatabdis.
Kumari Mamata Banerjee said that Press Correspondents are currently
given a concession of 50% for their travel along with spouse, once a
year. It is now proposed to extend this concession to companion of
those correspondents who do not have a spouse, and dependent children
up to 18 years, once a year.

Golden Rail Corridor Planned
NATIONAL HIGH SPEED RAIL AUTHORITY TO BE SET UP
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today said that the
Railways are planning to go in for Dedicated Passenger Corridor (DPC)
on the lines of Dedicated Freight Corridor. Presenting the Railway
Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, the Minister said DPC will be known
as the "Golden Rail Corridor" of the Indian Railways.
The Minister said that high speed rail corridor will become a catalyst
for India's economic growth, a stimulus for the development of
satellite towns and reduction of migration to metropolises. She said
therefore it is proposed to set up a National High Speed Rail
Authority for planning, standard setting, implementing and monitoring
these projects.
She said construction of High Speed passenger rail corridors is
another transformational initiative that Railways will embark upon in
the coming years. She said Indian Railways proposes to invest in
developing high speed corridors of 250 to 350 kmph speed. Already six
corridors have been identified and as the projects would require large
investments, they will be executed through PPP mode.

Special Task Force to clear proposals for investments within 100 days
PLAN TO COMPLETE 1000 ROUTE-KMS OF NEW LINES IN ONE YEAR
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee has said that a
Special Task Force will be set up to clear proposals for investments
within 100 days. Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in
Parliament today, the Minister said that the policy guidelines in this
regard will be made easy, simple and investment friendly.
The Minister said that the route-kms of the Railways was 53,596 kms in
1950. After a span of 58 years, we have now reached only 64,015 kms
adding just 10,419 kms an annual average of only 180 kms. She said the
Railways needs connectivity for industries, ports, tourist centres,
universities, religious places, coal mines etc.,and that is why the
Ministry has set a target to add 25,000 kms of new lines in the next
ten years as outlined in Vision 2020.
Kumari Mamata Banerjee said for the first time ever, in line with our
vision, Railways is planning a major jump to complete 1,000 route-kms
of new lines in one year with the limited resources. She said this is
a path-breaking step, considering the annual average of 180 route-kms
of new lines in the last 58 years and 219 route-kms in the last five
years.

Five Sports Acadamies to be set up
RAILWAYS TO RUN A COMMONWEALTH EXHIBITION TRAIN
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee said that to
strengthen the present sports infrastructure, her Ministry proposes to
set up five Sports Academies at Delhi, Secunderabad, Chennai, Kolkata
and Mumbai.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament today, the
Minister also proposed to provide astro-turfs for the development of
hockey at more places.
The Railway Budget also provides for increased employment
opportunities to sportspersons.
The Minister said that to mark the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held
in New Delhi, the Railways proposes to run a Commonwealth Exhibition
Train to spread the message.

Railway catering policy under revision
SIX NEW BOTTLING PLANTS FOR CLEAN DRINKING WATER
RS. 1,302 CRORE TO BE SPENT IN 2010-11 ON PASSENGER AMENITIES
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee, has said that her
Ministry is going for a special drive for improving passenger
amenities and cleanliness. Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11
in Parliament today, she said they have already introduced Janata
Ahar, economically priced food, in many stations. The Minister said
since Railways has received several complaints, it is decided to
provide catering departmentally in selected trains. The catering
policy is under revision and will be finalized as early as possible.
The Minister said to provide basic facility of clean drinking water,
six new bottling plants at Ambala, Amethi, Mal, Nasik, Farakka and
Trivandrum through the PPP route will be started with the mandate that
bottled fresh water will be provided at stations at much cheaper
rates.
The Minister said a major thrust is being given to the development of
passenger amenities. Financial powers of field officers have been
increased for quick execution of works. Kumari Mamata Banerjee said
Railways is projected to spend a record of Rs.1,302 crore in 2010-11
for passenger amenities.

Railways to Introduce Modern Trolleys
PROCEDURE OF ALLOTMENT OF RAKES TO BE STREAMLINED
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today said that her
Ministry proposes to introduce modern trolleys at all important
railway stations which will be handled by uniformed attendants to
assist senior citizens and women passengers in boarding and alighting
from coaches, along with their luggage comfortably.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, the Minister
also said that the Railways has received many complaints about
allotment of rakes. She said the procedure will be streamlined and to
start with, allotment of iron ore rakes would be made on a scientific
basis and this would be accessible through the web to ensure
transparency. The Minister informed the Parliament that this system
will be personally monitored by Member Traffic, Railway Board.

522 Hospitals and Diagnostic Centres to be set up
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today announced that
with the cooperation of Union Ministry of Health, it is expected that
about 522 hospitals and diagnostic centres will be set up which will
benefit railway employees and their children in a big way.

A New Scheme of "House for All" for Railway Employees
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today proposed a new
scheme of "House for All" that will provide residences to all railway
employees in the next ten years with the help of Ministry of Urban
Development.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, the Minister
said that there are 14 lakh employees of Indian Railways – from
officers to gangmen and the scheme will benefit all of them.

TWO MUSEUMS TO BE SET UP MARK THE 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today announced the
proposal of setting up a Railway Cultural and Heritage Promotion Board
which will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all culture
and heritage related activities on the railways.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, she also
announced that a Rabindra Museum at Howrah and Gitanjali Museum at
Bolpur, the place where Visva-Bharati international university is
located, would be set up to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of
Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. She said that she also proposes to
re-model Bholpur station inspired by the architecture of
Shantiniketan.
The Minister said to provide state-of-the-art infrastructural
facilities for the promotion of culture, the Ministry of Railways also
proposes to set up Shambhu Mitra Cultural Complex with performing arts
and a music academy at Howrah.

Concessions for Cancer Patients, Film Technicians and Press Correspondents
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today proposed to
enhance the concession to cancer patients upto 100% in 3 AC and
Sleeper Class. Presenting the Railway Budget 2010-11 in Parliament,
the Minister said at present Railways grant a concession of 75% in 3
AC and Sleeper Class to cancer patients going for treatment, together
with an escort.
She also proposed that technicians of regional film industry when
traveling for film production related work will be eligible for 75%
concession in Second Sleeper, 50% concession in First Class, AC Chair
Car, AC 3 tier, AC 2 tier in all trains including Rajdhani/Shatabdi
and Jan Shatabdis.
Kumari Mamata Banerjee said that Press Correspondents are currently
given a concession of 50% for their travel along with spouse, once a
year. It is now proposed to extend this concession to companion of
those correspondents who do not have a spouse, and dependent children
up to 18 years, once a year.

Golden Rail Corridor Planned
NATIONAL HIGH SPEED RAIL AUTHORITY TO BE SET UP
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today said that the
Railways are planning to go in for Dedicated Passenger Corridor (DPC)
on the lines of Dedicated Freight Corridor. Presenting the Railway
Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, the Minister said DPC will be known
as the "Golden Rail Corridor" of the Indian Railways.
The Minister said that high speed rail corridor will become a catalyst
for India's economic growth, a stimulus for the development of
satellite towns and reduction of migration to metropolises. She said
therefore it is proposed to set up a National High Speed Rail
Authority for planning, standard setting, implementing and monitoring
these projects.
She said construction of High Speed passenger rail corridors is
another transformational initiative that Railways will embark upon in
the coming years. She said Indian Railways proposes to invest in
developing high speed corridors of 250 to 350 kmph speed. Already six
corridors have been identified and as the projects would require large
investments, they will be executed through PPP mode.

Special Task Force to clear proposals for investments within 100 days
PLAN TO COMPLETE 1000 ROUTE-KMS OF NEW LINES IN ONE YEAR
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee has said that a
Special Task Force will be set up to clear proposals for investments
within 100 days. Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in
Parliament today, the Minister said that the policy guidelines in this
regard will be made easy, simple and investment friendly.
The Minister said that the route-kms of the Railways was 53,596 kms in
1950. After a span of 58 years, we have now reached only 64,015 kms
adding just 10,419 kms an annual average of only 180 kms. She said the
Railways needs connectivity for industries, ports, tourist centres,
universities, religious places, coal mines etc.,and that is why the
Ministry has set a target to add 25,000 kms of new lines in the next
ten years as outlined in Vision 2020.
Kumari Mamata Banerjee said for the first time ever, in line with our
vision, Railways is planning a major jump to complete 1,000 route-kms
of new lines in one year with the limited resources. She said this is
a path-breaking step, considering the annual average of 180 route-kms
of new lines in the last 58 years and 219 route-kms in the last five
years.

Five Sports Acadamies to be set up
RAILWAYS TO RUN A COMMONWEALTH EXHIBITION TRAIN
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee said that to
strengthen the present sports infrastructure, her Ministry proposes to
set up five Sports Academies at Delhi, Secunderabad, Chennai, Kolkata
and Mumbai.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament today, the
Minister also proposed to provide astro-turfs for the development of
hockey at more places.
The Railway Budget also provides for increased employment
opportunities to sportspersons.
The Minister said that to mark the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held
in New Delhi, the Railways proposes to run a Commonwealth Exhibition
Train to spread the message.

Railway catering policy under revision
SIX NEW BOTTLING PLANTS FOR CLEAN DRINKING WATER
RS. 1,302 CRORE TO BE SPENT IN 2010-11 ON PASSENGER AMENITIES
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee, has said that her
Ministry is going for a special drive for improving passenger
amenities and cleanliness. Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11
in Parliament today, she said they have already introduced Janata
Ahar, economically priced food, in many stations. The Minister said
since Railways has received several complaints, it is decided to
provide catering departmentally in selected trains. The catering
policy is under revision and will be finalized as early as possible.
The Minister said to provide basic facility of clean drinking water,
six new bottling plants at Ambala, Amethi, Mal, Nasik, Farakka and
Trivandrum through the PPP route will be started with the mandate that
bottled fresh water will be provided at stations at much cheaper
rates.
The Minister said a major thrust is being given to the development of
passenger amenities. Financial powers of field officers have been
increased for quick execution of works. Kumari Mamata Banerjee said
Railways is projected to spend a record of Rs.1,302 crore in 2010-11
for passenger amenities.

Railways to Introduce Modern Trolleys
PROCEDURE OF ALLOTMENT OF RAKES TO BE STREAMLINED
New Delhi: February 24, 2010
The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today said that her
Ministry proposes to introduce modern trolleys at all important
railway stations which will be handled by uniformed attendants to
assist senior citizens and women passengers in boarding and alighting
from coaches, along with their luggage comfortably.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, the Minister
also said that the Railways has received many complaints about
allotment of rakes. She said the procedure will be streamlined and to
start with, allotment of iron ore rakes would be made on a scientific
basis and this would be accessible through the web to ensure
transparency. The Minister informed the Parliament that this system
will be personally monitored by Member Traffic, Railway Board.

522 Hospitals and Diagnostic Centres to be set up

The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today announced that
with the cooperation of Union Ministry of Health, it is expected that
about 522 hospitals and diagnostic centres will be set up which will
benefit railway employees and their children in a big way.

A New Scheme of "House for All" for Railway Employees

The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today proposed a new
scheme of "House for All" that will provide residences to all railway
employees in the next ten years with the help of Ministry of Urban
Development.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, the Minister
said that there are 14 lakh employees of Indian Railways – from
officers to gangmen and the scheme will benefit all of them.

Railway Cultural and Heritage Promotion Board to be set up
TWO MUSEUMS TO BE SET UP MARK THE 150TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE

The Minister of Railways, Kumari Mamata Banerjee today announced the
proposal of setting up a Railway Cultural and Heritage Promotion Board
which will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all culture
and heritage related activities on the railways.
Presenting the Railway Budget for 2010-11 in Parliament, she also
announced that a Rabindra Museum at Howrah and Gitanjali Museum at
Bolpur, the place where Visva-Bharati international university is
located, would be set up to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary of
Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. She said that she also proposes to
re-model Bholpur station inspired by the architecture of
Shantiniketan.
The Minister said to provide state-of-the-art infrastructural
facilities for the promotion of culture, the Ministry of Railways also
proposes to set up Shambhu Mitra Cultural Complex with performing arts
and a music academy at Howrah.
