Shinde disappoints Nagas

Shinde disappoints Nagas

NNN/DIMAPUR, Feb 18: Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde did not meet the expectation of the Naga public as he failed to open a fresh aspect on the ongoing Naga peace talks.  In a whirlwind tour to Nagaland today, Sushil Kumar Shinde said only what any other Central leader would say on the Naga peace talks. "The Centre is trying its best to hammer out a workable solution to the protracted Naga problem," was what the visiting Union Home Minister had to say, much to the disappointment of the Naga people who were expecting that the visit of the Union Minister would bring some 'fresh news'.  "Actually, we were expecting some 'fresh news' from the Union Home Minister but that did not happen," said a prominent Naga leader who did not want to be named. Sushil Kumar Shinde addressed public meetings in four different places of Nagaland today including at the Manipur-Nagaland border town Khuzama, at Tuli in Mokokchung, in Peren district headquarters and at Northern Angami-II assembly constituency. In all the places, Sushil Kumar Shinde said the Government of India has been giving its best effort to resolve the vexed Naga issue and "bring development in Nagaland." The Union Home Minister said that there should not be any insurgency problem in Nagaland and people should be able to live peacefully and assured, "We will bring peace". The Home Minister then said he had met with the Chief Ministers of the neighbouring States including that of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the visit of the Union Home Minister to Nagaland was significant as he had said few months ago that solution to the Naga political problem would be brought about by March, 2013.
