Vidarbha Farmers Join Nation-Wide Bandh on Sept 20 against Big BangUPA Reforms

Vidarbha Farmers Join Nation-Wide Bandh on Sept 20 against Big Bang UPA Reforms

Nagpur - September 16, 2012

The more than 3 million agrarian crisis hit cotton farmers of west vidarbha alone with thousands of farm widows will join Nation-wide Bandh  called by the Confederation of on September 20, to protest against government's decision to operationalise 51 per cent foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail by road blockade on national highway passing vidarbha , Kishore Tiwari of Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti who is fighting the saving the dying cotton farmers of vidarbha region who are innocent victims of wrong technology on MNCs and faulty policies of state  resulting more than 9000 farmers suicides since 2005 after the American MNCs Monsanto  allowed to take over cotton economy of the region .

"Vidarbha is classic example of aalowing FDI in agriculture input like seed ,pesticide, fertilizer as MNCs having done massive investment in seed, pesticide and infrastructure have created their monopoly and involved in unfair trade practices and part cartel of Walmart, Tesco and Carrefour internationally hence their entry will fuel more despair and distress and aggravate agrarian crisis  in which  innocent farmers suicide @ 8 hourly since June 2005  and we have demanding the Indian agrarian economy should be protected from this round of liberalization which is against rural India "Tiwari asked.

The big-bang reforms, the government on Friday allowed 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, 49% investment by foreign airlines in aviation sector and sale of equity in four PSUs along with hike in diesel price and reducing subsidies will further aggravate the  rural agrarian crisis  as this move will now allow multi nationals to take control of agrarian economy from village itself as having allowed MNCs to create vertical and horizontal monopoly in agriculture input like seed ,pesticide and fertilizer and controlling out put price by prevarication it on commodity exchanges has made vidarbha cotton farmers as slaves of these MNCs and fate of other India farmers will be same if this decision of opening FDI in retail is deeply established by  destroying  exiting village economy and protected fabrics  hence vidarbha farmers' strongly oppose this move and demand the roll back of UPA Govt. most unfortunate decision, Tiwari said .
