CBI ARRESTS CRPF OFFICIAL
Kolkata: March 18, 2010
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Shri Hemanta Kumar
Barik, Signal Operator in CRPF Signal Head Quarters, Salt Lake,
Kolkata while personating himself as SP, CBI, Kolkata.
The case was registered in CBI, Bhubaneswar Branch under Section 419
and 420 of IPC on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Manager
of Bhubaneswar based Builders and Developers Pvt. Ltd. Company. The
allegation in the complaint is that a person personating himself as
SP, CBI, Kolkata demanded Rs. Five crore from the complainant for not
arresting him in a CBI Case and agreed to accept Rs. One lakh as a
part payment. During verification it was learnt that the said accused
was an impersonator and there was no SP in CBI, Kolkata in the said
name and also no case was found to be registered against complainant
in CBI. Accordingly, a trap was laid at Special Circuit House,
Bhubaneswar where the accused was staying by making entry in the guest
register as SP, Kolkata and he was arrested along with the trap money
of Rs. One lakh.
During interrogation the accused disclosed that he is serving as a
Signal Operator in CRPF Signal Hqrs., Salt Lake, Kolkata. It has also
come to the light that the accused was personating himself as an
officer of CBI since quite a long time.
The accused was produced before the Special C.J.M., Bhubaneswar and
was remanded to CBI custody for two days.
