Nepal: Next govt under Baidhya faction's leadership?

SARLAHI: Unified CPN-Maoist Secretary CP Gajurel today demanded that the Mohan Baidhya faction, which is the hardline camp in the party, be given a chance to lead a consensus government if there was an opportunity again for the Unified CPN-Maoist to lead the administration.

The Maoist party of late seems to be standing at two opposite sides with Vice-chairman Baidhya leading a group against the establishment side that is led by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Vice-chairman Baburam Bhattarai, who is leading the government now.

Bhattarai was elected to the post of the prime minister on August 28.

"As the prime minister and the party leadership are working against the spirit of the people's war, the incumbent government cannot last long, and, in addition, there is no possibility that a consensus government will be formed under the leadership of Bhattarai again," argued Gajurel at a press conference organised by the party in Netragunj, Sarlahi today.

Stating that there is no likelihood of country seeing a 'people's constitution', Gajurel said the country's politics was heading towards a complex scenario due to 'unscientific integration' of Maoist combatants.

"The leadership of our party is trying to dissolve the people's liberation army in the name of ushering in peace," said the Maoist secretary, adding that party Chairman Dahal had just proved himself a loose cannon with his empty promises and sweet talks.

Bhattarai to continue: Pun

GULMI: Minister for Finance Barsha Man Pun on Saturday claimed that Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai would lead a national consensus government. He ruled out the possibility of a Nepali Congress-led unity government due to ongoing intra-party rift in the (Congress) party. "But intra-party rift in the Maoists will not hinder the tasks related to peace and constitution, and Prime Minister Bhattarai will lead a unity government," said Pun at a press meet organised by Gulmi chapter of Revolutionary Journalists' Union in Tamghas.
