A tribute to a Silent Literary Worker

We want to offer our tribute to late Dipika Chakravarty (Dipika Aita) of Jorhat who died last week at the age of 80 years. Late Dipika Chakravarty was a relatively unknown name in the Assamese literary world. She was a silent worker whose deeds are exposed mainly now after her death.

 

 

Her literary works involved, amongst others, translation of several famous Bengali novels into Assamese. It was only last month that Xahityo Academy published her 900 page long Assamese novel 'Xei Xomoyot' which was a translation of the novel of the famous Bengali author Sunil Gangopadhyaya. Earlier she also received an the Xorot Chandra Xahityo award from Bengal for her translation of works of the Bengali writer. She also completed the Assamese translation of the famous novel 'Gora' of Rabindradnath Tagore which is yet to be published.

 

She will remain a great inspiration to the Assamese women writers all overs.

 

May her soul rest in peace.
