Dear Friend,

Widespread media reports indicate that President Obama is considering
announcing at the State of the Union speech on Tuesday that he is willing
to cut, or to accept cuts to, Social Security.

Such an announcement would be breathtakingly misguided. And it would only
feed into the hysteria and misinformation that already exists about Social
Security.

But fortunately there are indications that President Obama hasn't yet made
up his mind on this issue. So we are joining our friends at MoveOn and a
host of other progressive organizations in urging anyone who supports
Social Security to speak out before it's too late.

I just signed a petition calling on President Obama to defend Social
