PSUs Contracted Import of 4.13 Lakh Tonne Pulses During Current Year

New Delhi: September 22, 2010.

 

The Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), PEC, MMTC, STC and NCCF have contracted 4.13 lakh tonnes of pulses during the current financial year so far.

 

Of the total contracted quantity, 2.11 lakh tonne pulses have arrived and 1.35 lakh tonnes have been disposed from the stocks with these agencies upto 16.9.2010.

 

As on 16.9.2010, 1.12 lakh tonne have been supplied to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab for distribution under Public Distribution System (PDS). In 2009-10 these companies had supplied 2,50,776 tonnes of imported pulses to these states for distribution through PDS.

 

In order to augment domestic availability of pulses, government encourages import of pulses under two schemes:

 

(i) Scheme for import of pulses by PSUs against reimbursement of losses upto 15% of landed cost and service charge of 1.2% of CIF value

 

(ii) Distribution of imported pulses by State governments through Public Distribution (PDS) at rate of 1 kg per family per month at a subsidy of Rs. 10 per kg.
