Mughal road, Srinagar Leh road and Kupwara Tanghdar road closed for traffic after snowfall


The heaven enjoys Snow fall.Rush Kashmir as Plains in Kashmir Valley received season's first snowfall on Dec 11, with the ski resort of Gulmarg recording 22 inches of fresh snowfal!Higher reaches of Kashmir on Thursday experienced fresh snowfall while rains lashed the plains even as minimum temperatures.

Greater Kashmir reports:
There was fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of Kashmir on Thursday while the plains received rains. Meteorological department has predicted significant improvement in the weather from Saturday morning.
 
According to MET officials there was fresh snowfall in Gulmarg in north Kashmir, Sonamarg in Ganderbal district, Peer Ki Gali in Shopian, upper reaches of Phalgam, Sadna top and Z Gali in Kupwara. They said most of the plains in Kashmir received rains leading to subsequent drop in the temperatures.
 
"There was moderate snowfall on higher reaches of Kashmir. The plains received light rains," Director MeT department, Sonam Lotus told Greater Kashmir. 
 
He said there will be significant improvement in weather from Saturday morning.  "After Saturday maximum (day) temperature will rise and there will be decrease in minimum (night) temperatures," Louts added.
 
MUGHAL ROAD CLOSED
Officials of Traffic department told Greater Kashmir the Mughal road linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri in Jammu was closed Thursday morning following fresh snowfall at several places.
 
"The road had become very slippery due to snow. We closed the road in the morning," the officials said, adding that the administration had assured them about snow clearance once there was improvement in the weather.
 
"Several vehicles are stranded on both sides of the Mughal road," the officials said.
 
SRINAGAR-JAMMU HIGHWAY OPEN
The officials said that 300-km Srinagar-Jammu highway connecting Kashmir with rest of the world was open for traffic from both sides despite rains. 
 
TEMPERATURES
Giving breakup of the temperature, MeT officials said: Srinagar recorded 2.8 degree Celsius minimum night temperature. 
 
They said ski resort Gulmarg in Baramulla recorded 3.2 mm snow during the night while the minimum temperature was minus 3.0 degrees Celsius as against minus 2.6 degrees Celsius the previous night.  "Gulmarg was the only place in Kashmir where temperatures remained at sub-zero level," they said.
Officials said Kokernag recorded a low of 1.9 degrees Celsius while the mercury in Pahalgam settled at 1.3 degrees Celsius.
 
MeT officials said that except Gulmarg, most parts of Kashmir recorded an increase in the night temperature. They said Qazigund recorded minimum 6.5 degrees Celsius night temperature.
Kupwara in north Kashmir, officials said, recorded 1.5 degree Celsius minimum night temperature.
Leh in Ladakh region was the coldest place in the state recording minus 6.7 degrees Celsius minimum night temperature.
 
Officials said Kargil also witnessed a drop of two degrees Celsius in night temperature at (-) 5.6 degrees Celsius compared to minus 3.6 degrees Celsius the previous night.
