Nepal: CPN-Mashal decides to protest BIPPA

KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal-Mashal said on Monday that its Central Committee has decided to protest against the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) made with India during Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarais recent visit to the southern neighbour, concluding the deal was against the national interest.

In a press statement issued by party General Secretary Mohan Bikram Singh, the Mashal said that BIPPA is not beneficial to developing country like Nepal. The partys Central Committee meeting was held in

an undisclosed location yesterday.

The party also concluded that an agreement like BIPPA would weaken Nepals industries and business sector, and demanded that it be scrapped.

Also, the party condemned the Saturday killing of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi by rebels, saying it was brutal and inhumane.

Meanwhile, the Mashal expressed sorrow over the death of veteran communist leader Devendra Lal Shrestha Kainla Baa.

Shrestha died at the age 88 in Lalitpur yesterday, and was cremated  at Pashupati Aryaghat today.
