Bismillah,
Asalamualikum Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Hazrat Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Allah's Messenger (peace_be_upon_him) said: Whenever you sight the new moon (of the month of Ramadan) observe fast, and when you sight it (the new moon of Shawwal) break it, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then observe fast for thirty days.  (Related by Muslim Hadith # 2378).

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates; The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, once mentioned Ramadan and said, "Do not begin the fast until you see the new moon, and do not break the fast (at the end of Ramadan) until you see it. If the new moon is obscured from you, then work out (when it should be)." (Al-Muwatta, Hadith #18.1.1 & 1.2)

A great confusion is being forwarded by unqualified organizations (without naming them May Allah guide us all) and self declared scholars who are instigating Muslims to break from Islamic tradition and sayings of our beloved Prophet sallaho alahi wasalam.

We as Muslims are bound to sight the moon as is the tradition in ALL MUSLIM COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD without exception.  We challenge anyone to bring forth any country that does not have its own hilaal committee to sight the moon.  This includes newly founded communities in Trinidad, Guyana, United States and Canada.  From the head of the Sunni world Al Azhar to the head of the Shia world in Qom and Iraq they all are unanimous of following the local sighting that might include expanding boundaries.

None of the organizations who deny following the Hilaal sighthing have any backup from any established Grand Mufti, Qualified Scholar or Islamic Country.  They are independent and free thinking in the new founded land of North America.

Please forward to all your email contacts.

We share the ruling of the  Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia (Followers of moderate Salafi/Wahhabi doctrine) who advise their followers to not follow them.

http://archive.gulfnews.com/articles/08/08/24/10239512.html   Grand Mufti declares following moon of Saudi is not valid for Muslim World.  Please share with your friends and families and encourage the members and management of the centre's of the Masjid's who follow astronomical calculations or Saudi to change their position and stick to local sightings like the entire Muslim world.

Currently over 82 Sunni Masjids in GTA (Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamaah)  http://www.hilalcommittee.com/ , Ithna Ashriyya Shia Centre's (25 in Toronto) plus the Ismaili community (25 Jamaat Khana's) in Toronto follow the sighting of the moon to start and end the month of Ramadan.
We don't know of any country that bases the fasting and Eid based on astronomical calculations.

Why not follow Saudi's sighting?  http://www.hilalcommittee.com/decisions.html

Authentic Hadeeth to support the sighting.  If inshallah it is sighted then Ramadan will be on Wednesday August 11th.  The chance is minimal for North American's so it is more likely Thursday August 12th.

2.      Hazrat AbuHurayrah May Allah be pleased with him) narrates; Allah's Messenger (peace_be_upon_him) said: Observe fast on sighting it (the new moon) and break (fast) on sighting it (the new moon), but if the sky is cloudy for you, then complete the number (of thirty) (Related by Muslim Hadith #2379)
3.      Hazrat AbuHurayrah May Allah be pleased with him) narrates; Allah's Messenger (peace_be_upon_him) said: Observe fast on sighting it (the new moon) and break it on sighting it. But if (due to clouds) the actual position of the month is concealed from you, you should then count thirty (days). (Related by Muslim, Hadith 2380)
4.      Hazrat AbuHurayrah May Allah be pleased with him) narrates; The Messenger of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) made a mention of the new moon and (in this connection) said: Observe fast when you see it (the new moon) and break fast when you see it (the new moon of Shawwal), but when (the actual position of the month is) concealed from you (on account of cloudy sky), then count thirty days. (Related by Muslim, Hadith # 2381)

5.      Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates; Hakim ibn al-Araj reported: I went to Ibn Abbas and he was reclining using his mantle as a pillow near the fountain of Zamzam. I said to him: Tell me about fasting on Ashura. He said: When you see the new moon of Muharram then count the (days) and observe fast on the 9th. I said to him: Is it how the Messenger of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) observed the fast? He said: Yes. (Related by Muslim, Hadith # 2526)
