The Final Push - Be a Part of History by Supporting Amir Farokhi's Campaign

With only nine days left until Atlanta's December 1st run-off election, Amir Farokhi's campaign for the City Council Post 2 At-Large seat is in its final push.

After winning 41% of the votes across the city in the November general election (his opponent in the run-off received 43%), Amir's campaign continues to build momentum with recent endorsements from the Atlanta Board of Realtors and Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors.

Amir is the face of new leadership as the first Iranian American to run for any public office in Atlanta.  His success in Atlanta will have far reaching implications for the Iranian American community at large.

Voter turnout will be the key to victory on December 1st.  Amir needs our support in raising funds to reach voters across Atlanta and get them back to the polls.  Your contribution will enable him to connect with voters in every part of the city.  We ask that you make a contribution of $250, $100, $50, or even $25 today to Amir's campaign.

Unfortunately, however, emails are being circulated on the Internet targeting Amir's ethnic background and insinuating that his campaign is part of a larger push to get Muslims elected to public office.  Having been born and raised in Atlanta, Amir takes pride in Atlanta's diverse population and rejects such wedge politics.

Amir's campaign was formally endorsed and supported by Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), the connected PAC of PAAIA, in May of 2009. In fact, due to his campaign's focus on smart solutions, Amir has earned more endorsements than anyone in the race.  However, to win the run-off election, your continued support is needed over the next nine days.

It is up to us to reject the politics of ethnic and religious divisions and speak out against prejudice and xenophobia.  Be a part of history!  Help elect the first Iranian American to public office in the state of Georgia.

Contribute today!

Turn the Tide: Participate in LA Times Poll about the suspension of Fox broadcasters for Haddadi remarks

An Internet poll being conducted by the Los Angeles Times asks whether or not Fox Sports should have suspended Clippers announcers Ralph Lawler and Michael Smith for their derogatory comments about Grizzlies' Iranian center, Hamed Haddadi.  Currently, a significant majority of the respondents have indicated that the announcers should not have been suspended.  While Internet based polls are far from scientific, we encourage all our supporters and community members to participate and indicate their support for Fox's decision.

In a letter to Fox Sports, PAAIA has conveyed the community's outrage and its condemnation of such insensitive and inappropriate on-air remarks to its senior executives, while also commending them for having issued an apology to Haddadi and others who were offended in a timely manner.
