Meanwhile,Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK Saturday ended its seven-year alliance with the Congress and pulled out of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government after running into roadblocks over seat sharing in assembly elections only a month away.

Economic policy decisions and reformist legislations could be the main casualty of the sudden decision by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to withdraw support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

Corporate houses were not willing to give their immediate reactions on record, but some chiefs said privately they foresaw a crisis unless immediately resolved and that the same could translate into slower decision-making process, especially on reforms.

"We did have an indication something was amiss, going by the finance minister's (Pranab Mukherjee) remarks today. But little did we realise the events could take such a turn," said an industrialist, also active in a leading industry chamber.

In a rather candid admission, the finance minister had told reporters that there were problems with the Tamil Nadu-based ally over seat-sharing for the upcoming assembly elections, but that the same would be resolved.

"In our political relationship, we have sometimes some problems. We have the capacity to create problems and at the same time solve them. It will be solved," Mukherjee had said Saturday noon.

Another head of an industry chamber pointed out that they were particularly worried over the fate of seven long-pending bills the government had promised to introduce soon for financial sector reforms covering insurance, pension and banking.

"There was also this promise of looking afresh at the whole foreign direct investment policy. This included the demand that the multi-brand retailing be opened up. All this could now be pushed to cold storage once again," he said.

Some others felt there could be a compromise between the Congress and DMK eventually and that could allay all apprehensions which the industry has, as of now. "Just as Sensex is extremely unpredictable, so is politics. Call me tomorrow," said an industrialist.

But they all felt it will prove to be a jolt to market and investor sentiments.

In a development Saturday evening, DMK decided to end its seven-year alliance with the ruling UPA government under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over differences with the Congress party on seat-sharing in assembly elections.

As a result, the ruling coalition will only have 256 members of parliament in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament, which is less than the half-way mark of 272 lawmakers required for simple majority.

The dramatic decision, announced after a meeting of DMK leaders including Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, robbed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government of majority support in the Lok Sabha where the Congress-led UPA coalition will now have only 256 MPs -- less than the half-way 272.

But with the DMK saying it would still give "issue-based support", a stand similar to that of the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Congress sources said there was no immediate danger to the UPA government.

The DMK move, however, took the Congress by surprise. One of its leaders, Satyavrat Chaturvedi, called the decision "sudden".

The DMK move followed the Congress insistence on contesting from 63 of Tamil Nadu's 234 assembly seats while a peeved DMK was willing to concede only 60.

As the Congress remained adamant and reportedly made it clear that it would also pick the 63 seats, Karunanidhi lashed out past Friday midnight, calling the Congress stand "unjustified".

At the Saturday evening meeting, DMK leaders voiced bitterness vis-a-vis the Congress and decided it was time to part ways with a party they had allied with since the 2004 Lok Sabha election.

DMK leader and former central minister T.R. Baalu denied the decision was linked to the raging spectrum corruption scandal which led to the arrest of DMK's former communications minister A. Raja and to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raid on Karunanidhi's family-owned Kalaignar TV.

A DMK statement said the Congress intransigence showed it was not keen on having it as an ally. "Hence we decided to pull out," it said.

Baalu said the decision had been conveyed to Congress leaders in New Delhi. He added that the DMK's six ministers in the Manmohan Singh council of ministry would submit their resignation.

The snapping of relations left the Congress high and dry in Tamil Nadu, where it had supported the Karunanidhi government for the past five years while taking DMK support for its government in Puducherry.
Sensex, Nifty up by 4.44% during the 1st week of Budget
All-round buying mainly in Auto, Fast Moving Capital Goods, Realty and Banking sectors in view of positive announcement in the Union Budget pushed up both the BSE benchmark Sensex and Nifty by 4.44 per cent during the first week of Budget.

The decision to formally introduce the constitutional amendment for GST, no increase in excise duty, allowing foreign investors to directly invest in Mutual Funds, rise in investment limit for foreign funds in corporate bonds, bringing down fiscal deficit boosted sentiments.

The industry welcomed the Budget terming it as "positive" and "growth-oriented".

The BSE benchmark Sensex recorded its highest point-wise gain after 21 months, surging over 623 points on March 1st across-the-board buying.

The BSE benchmark Sensex shot up by 785.54 points, or 4.44 per cent, to end the week at 18,486.45 from its last weekend's level.

There were no major negative factors in the Union Budget announced by the Finance Minister and no rise in excise duty, 40K crore disinvestment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the next fiscal year, supported the market sentiments.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also rose by 235.20 points, or 4.43 per cent, to end the week at 5,538.75.

Permission for foreign investors to invest in mutual fund schemes and increase in FII investment ceiling on corporate bonds announced in the Budget underpinned sentiment.

The Budget for 2011-12 proposed to cut excise duty on development and manufacturing of hybrid vehicle kits to 5 per cent from the existing 10 per cent, besides fully exempting customs and counter-vailing duty (CVD) on import of special hybrid parts, leading auto stocks to gain ground.

Meanwhile, food inflation declined by more than 1 percentage point to 10.39 per cent for the week ended February 19, led by a decline in prices of onions, potatoes and pulses.

Brokers also attributed rise on hopes of financial sector reforms as the Union Cabinet cleared the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Bill 2011.

Among the major indices, the BSE-Auto index shot up by 668.25 points, or 8.10 per cent, followed by the BSE-FMCG by 223.06 points or 6.79 per cent, the BSE-Realty by 121.18 points or 6.19 per cent, the Bankex by 612.36 points, or 5.18 per cent, the BSE-Capital Goods by 625.28 points, or 5.07 per cent, and the BSE-PSU by 354.15 points or 4.31 per cent.

The total turnover at BSE and NSE fell to Rs 14,445.93 crore and Rs 56,543.00 crore from its last weekend's level of Rs 16,350.25 crore and Rs 66,987.68 crore respectively.

Major gainers from the Sensex pack were M&M (13.64 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (12.21 per cent), ITC by (10.47 per cent), HDFC (8.77 per cent), HDFC Bank (8.41 per cent), Bajaj Auto (7.25 per cent), REL Com (6.51 per cent), Larsen (6.46 per cent), Tata Motors (5.85 per cent) BHEL (5.57 per cent), Jaiprakash Asso (5.26 per cent), Hindalco Ind (4.92 per cent), State Bank Of India (4.90 per cent) and Sterlite Industries (4.35 per cent).

However, Reliance Infra fell by 4.91 per cent and Bharti Airtel by 0.74 per cent.

"We think the way the kickbacks were given, being very clearly establish by the Income Tax appelate authority identifying Ottavio Quattrocchi, who all of us know had enviable access to the then Prime Minister... takes this whole issue clearly to the doorstep of shrimati Soniaji," party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said, after the conclave adopted a political resolution which has been scathing in its criticism of the Congress and the UPA.

The BJP also sought a clarification from the Gandhi family on its relations with Quattrocchi and his dealings.

"Therefore, today there is a very clear need for the first family of the Congress to explain where they stand on this. Who was Quattrocchi and what was his link with the household of the then Prime Minister (Rajiv Gandhi) and if indeed Mr Quattorcchi received the kickbacks, where is all that money?" Sitharaman asked.

To a specific question whether the BJP, which had not been so far aggressive on the Gandhis, has decided to hit hard on the AICC chief, she said, "The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal is a quasi-judicial body which has found Quattrocchi guilty and he has direct and very clear access to the then Prime Minister. Therefore, what do you expect us to conclude?"

Besides, she said the assertions of former Telecom Minister A Raja and Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee that they had obtained "due clearances" for cost escalations, leads to the "doorsteps of the PMO".

"He (PM) also has to come out clean on those clearances... clearances by Joint Secretaries would not have been sufficient," she said, declaring that corruption in 2-G scam, Adarsh Housing Society and Commonwealth Games will also be highlighted.

On whether the BJP's demand for JPC into the 2-G issue meant that they will stall the budget session of Parliament, Sitharaman said, "We are very firm on the JPC demand. There is no change in our position."

The CBI had sought permission from the court to withdraw the case against the 70-year-old businessman after several failed attempts to extradite him in the Bofors scam case. The agency cited the lack of evidence as the reason.

The judge observed, "The CBI's application to close the case against Quottrocchi has been allowed. Two attempts in two different countries have failed. Twenty-five years have passed. I found this probe to be an exercise that will not yield any possible results. For how long can we allow the hard earned money of the aam aadmi to be used for this case?"

The CBI plea came amid fresh charges made in an Income Tax Appellate Tribunal order.

Quattrocchi has never appeared before a court in India. Advocate Ajay K. Agrawal, who is opposing the agency's move, has filed a set of written arguments.

He alleges that Quattrocchi's son Massimo has been visiting India almost every month for a long time. Agrawal also claims that Massimo is doing the same job of a middleman, as was earlier done by his father.

"Khatri Sick" PM stands exposed : DV proves right

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: Hailed as the "god's good man", the darling of the ruling class, praised and paraded as the simplest and most honest PM is finally in the dock.

DV was the first in India to expose the "Khatri Sick" PM. At his Feb.16, 2011 press conference he simply tried to white-wash all the dirty things going under his seat.

Look at the corruption scandals, which he promotes, listed below by the Hindu, India's premier Brahminical daily, in its editorial itself.

Age of scams

Every well-informed schoolchild knows this is rising India's Age of Uninterrupted Scams. No government before the present United Progressive Alliance regime has had to deal with such a dizzying succession of exposes of corruption scandals — 2G spectrum, the Commonwealth Games, Adarsh Housing, money laundering, and the rest that have come tumbling out. The latest in the series is the Indian Space Research Organisation's deal — hatched in secret and sought to be covered up over a period of six years — to launch two customer-specific satellites and give away 70 MHz of high-value S-band for unfettered commercial exploitation at a scandalously low price of just over Rs. 1,000 crore to a private company, Devas Multimedia Private Limited. The transaction and its implications were first exposed by Business Line, the business daily of The Hindu group, in a detailed report published on May 31, 2010. (Hindu, Feb.10, 2011).

On one side he is encouraging the overfed upper castes to eat more, and on the other he is hitting the stomach of the already starving Bahujans.

The "Khatri Sick" has said no to increase the payment to NREG workers who are getting a pittance. He even over-ruled the Sonia Gandhi-headed NAC to raise the NREG wages.

DV has reported many cases of "Khatri Sick"s pro-capitalist and anti-poor sympathies.

Past sins keep Modi out of Delhi

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: Nature has its own ways of dealing with men and matters. The body ejects any unwanted rubbish — through vomitting, purging, sweating. The ocean never keeps anything thrown into it — the waves simply throw it back. These are the laws of Nature which are universal.

Gujarat's Killer Modi has become a victim of Nature. The OBC (oil-crushing Ghanchi) Chief Minister who killed over 2,000 Muslims in the famous Gujarat Genocide-2002, to become the Hindu hero is unwanted by his own Hindu (Brahmana Jati) Party.

Future PM has no future: The poor fellow was not wanted in Bihar also. Its OBC Kurmi jati leader, Nitish Kumar, didn't want him during the elections fearing Muslim anger. The Nitish rejection was a slap on the face of Narendra Modi (60), praised by the Brahminists as the Hindu Hridaya Samrat.

What happened to the Great Samrat who was till recently projected as the future PM of India?

Poor man became a victim of the forces of Nature. The BJP, which once carried him on the head and paraded, today says he is unwanted. His chances are stunted, hindered because his past sins (of killing thousands of Muslims in cold blood) are haunting the party.

World's tallest statue: No doubt, inside Gujarat, he is "popular", whatever it may mean. The Bania businessmen may be praising him but the powerful Patels are not happy. To please the Patels he is erecting a 600-ft. Sardar Patel statue, the world's tallest, at Ahmedabad. He is also planning a massive Gandhi conference hall, named after the famous Gujarati Bania.

Why the BJP leadership, despite all his "achievements", keeps him out? Because he has proved to be a divisive figure. Muslims, forming 15% of the country's population, hate him. There are any number of "Hindus" who also hate such hate-mongers.

The body has rejected the unwanted shit.

NOT SINGLE PREDICTION OF DV HAS GONE WRONG

Get Ready To Bury Brahminism

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: Not a single prediction (no — not even an opinion) made by DV has so far gone wrong. Nor one theory we propounded proved a failure. Except in only one case of Obama for which for the first time we tendered apology in writing. (DV July 1, 2010 p.21: "DV committed mistake on Obama").

In the report along side we have talked about the "Forces of history" which shape the world. But India's ruling micro-minority Brahminists don't care for the "forces of history" because they know the Hindu poison has put the 1,300 million (world's second largest population) to eternal sleep.

Basket of crabs: The caste system they created is like a basket of crabs.

The Hindu caste system has created in us a "crab mentality" which never allows any crab to escape out of the basket. One caste (or better subcaste) is the enemy of the other.

Brahminists need no army or police to keep them inside the basket.

Dr. Ambedkar opinion: The fishermen never keep the crab basket closed. One crab pulls the other crab trying to escape.

Just like the crab, one "Hindu" caste is the enemy of the other Hindu caste.

Ascending order of reverence and descending degree of contempt. This is Hinduism, said Babasaheb Ambedkar.

In AP, the Congress used the crab theory to control the Reddy crab by using the Kapu crab. The Brahminic rulers have been using the "crab theory" to control India since thousands of years. It did work.

Abhinav Bharat as internal enemy: But the "Forces of history" being the law of nature are above the crab theory.

Brahminists do not know it. The Abhinav Bharat, the emerging Hindu terrorist force, is the most dangerous and deadly force that will be our internal enemy.

If the DV family carefully follows our writings it can serve as a catalyst to accelerate the "forces of history" which are fast gathering momentum.

Once (1) Israel collapses and (2) the US sinks under the "forces of history", (3) the nuclear-armed Iran takes over the leadership in West Asia, (4) China, already a world force, takes over the world leadership, (5) revolutionary Muslims of Pakistan finish the corrupt Zardari regime and take over the nuclear-powered Pakistan, what will the Brahminic cockroaches do? Who will come to their aid?

Keep a watch on our prediction and act as the catalysts of change to speed up the "forces of history".

And get ready to bury Brahminism and build the New India of Babasaheb's dream.

HINDU TERRORISTS & MANUWADI MARXISTS PLAYING HAVOC

India's most healthy tribal society called primitive, uncultured

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: Tribals, the original inhabitants of India who form about 10% of our population, are ridiculed as primitive, uncivilised, uncultured and lately hunted down and killed as Maoist monsters.

But shocking reports have emerged from the demographic data revealing that the Tribals are the country's most civilised, healthy and cultured people.

Look at the shocking contradictions in the Brahminical verdict on a set of people who have become the worst victims of the very same people who prepared the demographic data.

TRIBALS CONTROL HALF OF INDIA

The constitution of India and the laws framed under it have enacted countless laws to protect tribal rights. But they are all on paper. But the governing Brahminists dumped all the laws into the wastepaper basket — even while exploiting the triblas by calling it "Adivasi liberation" in which the just arrested Bengali Brahmin Aseemananda is an expert.

Tribals control half of India's mineral wealth and forest resources which are exploited by the upper caste rulers. In the name of "development" Brahminists are developing themselves, diverting the illegally earned money into Swiss banks with the full blessings of the "Khatri Sick" PM.

Almost the entire Eastern India is tribal and it is in this area the Brahminical Maoist leadership is playing havoc with their lives and little property. Elsewhere in Gujarat, MP, etc. the Hindu terrorists are playing with their lives.

10% OF POPULATION CONDEMNED

A formidable 10% of our population is crushed and condemned to inhuman life — all in the name of the blessed Hinduism. What type of "religion" is this?

Demographic reports, however, present a different picture of the tribals.

HINDUS SHOULD BE ASHAMED

The tribal society holds a role model for the whole country, according to the demographic reports prepared by the very same enemies of tribals. The report says the tribals have a balanced sex composition.

The women enjoy a higher status and more autonomy — unlike the male dictatorship among the Brahminist (15%) Hindus.

The girls are married only after they get matured. There is no killing of girl child — a rampant disease among Hindus. Widows are happily married. It is mostly love-marriage without dowry and hardly any expense in marriage ceremony. Divorce is easy.

Hindus should be ashamed of such a wonderful society which is a role model for the whole country particularly the money-minded Brahminists.

MONGOLOID TRIBALS

Specially, the North-East India's famed Mongoloid tribals are today the most sought after by the Brahminical rulers themselves. Today in big cities, they are managing hotels, airlines, beauty parlour so honestly and so efficiently. The entire NE tribals have kicked Hinduism and embraced Christianity disgusted with Hinduism.

We can say that the Tribals are perhaps the most advanced, beautiful and ideal society. But Brahminists have condemned them and the RSS Adivasi Kalyan Samiti has invested millions of dollars to "civilise" the Tribals.

CIVILISING THE TRIBALS

What they mean by "civilising" the country's most civilised tribals is disrupting their ideal society by injecting the Hindu poison.

Hinduising means destroying Dalits (20%) and Tribals (10%) — the two who form the foundation of India that is Bharat which Babasaheb Ambedkar wanted to build as a mighty power. Alas, nothing is left now.

Over 64 years of Brahminic rule has set fire to the beautiful socio-cultural fabric that is manufactured by the tribals who are denounced as uncouth and outside the civilisation. To hell with this Brahminic civilisation.

"Hindu terrorism" becomes India's No.1 problem

OUR CORRESPONDENT

Bangalore: When the Indian Govt. is so merciless on "Islamic terrorists", arrested thousands of them, threw them into jail, keeping them indefinitely without any charge (take the case of Abdul Nasser Madani), why it is so kind and compassionate towards the deadliest Brahminical terrorists with proven charges of murder and mayhem?

Why these terrorists are not put on trial, convicted and punished even after the Bengali Brahmin Aseemananda's confessions of the crimes of all those named and arrested? Why the judiciary is silent ? The answer is it is also "Hindu".

Only Muslims arrested: Aseemnanda is not an ordinary criminal. He is a top leader of the Hindu terrorist party, RSS, and seriously engaged in hinduising (enslaving) the Gujarat tribals with the active assistance of its Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the killer of hundreds of Muslims in the "Gujarat Genocide". His confessions have revealed that almost all the recent major terrorist attacks including Samjhouta Express train were the handiwork of the Brahminic terrorists. But the police arrested only hundreds of Muslims for all these "terrorists actions" and Hindu media blamed them of "conspiracy". The people were made to believe an utter falsehood.

Has the Indian police, prosecutor, judiciary, media, the state itself gone "Hindu"? Why then it is soft on Hindu terrorists even after their secrets have been disclosed by S.M. Mushrif in his book, Who Killed Karkare?

We have been repeatedly writing that the greatest threat facing India is neither the Islamic terrorism nor the maoist menace. The one and the only threat facing India is "Brahminic terrorism". Even Rahul Gandhi, who named it, is helpless — forced to keep his mouth shut.

COMMUNICATION

DV proves right on Telugu blood-sucker

VENGAL RAO, DEPT.OF ECONOMICS, HYDERABAD CENTRAL UNIVESITY, HYDERABAD

During your recent visit here (Oct.26, 2010), our respected Dalit former Chief Secretary to the AP Govt., Kaki Mahdava Rao, held a dinner party in your honour at a posh club here inviting the cream of the Dalit officers. I was one among the Dalit student group.

DV never goes wrong: During your speech, which I immensely liked, you referred to the "Telugu blood-sucker", Vikram Akula's SKS Micro Finance which caused the death of so many rural Dalit women. But Madhava Rao disagreed with you and defended Akula.

I was bit confused though I know, as a reader of DV for so many years, that you will never go wrong.

Times exposes Akula: The Economic Times (Jan.31, 2011) came out with a front-page story on the atrocities committed by Akula fully supporting your criticism.

Narayana Murthy joins Akula: I am giving a summary of the report by the ET Delhi correspondent on the criminal activities of the micro finance (MF) mainly in AP where its upper caste owners are sucking the blood of poor rural woman (mainly Dalits) forcing them to commit suicide. ET estimates 45,000 rural women have become victims of MF companies.

Powerful demands are being made to arrest Akula and take over his fraudulent company.

What is more shocking is the huge investment made by the Bangalore Big Brahmin Narayana Murthy of Infosys in Akula's company and thereby collaborating in the crime of killing Dalit women.

Akula and Murthy swear their mission is to save the poor. When did these upper caste enemies of Dalits fall in love with the "poor"?

Akula's SKS Microfinance is the most famous among the MF companies and when it went public it shares were over subscribed by the rich. That means Akula is supported by the entire "rich" (read upper castes) of the country.

Yunus facing arrest: In the name of the "poor", Akula raised Rs. 205 crores.

Akula is not the only one in this field of blood sucking. ET has published the story of two others but no comparison before Akula.

What is more shocking is Akula's hero in micro-finance, Muhammed Yunus of Bangladesh, whom DV called an international fraud hoisted by the zionists, is also facing arrest in his country. (DV Feb.1, 2011 p.27: "Nobel Award Winner Yunus facing corruption charges").

DV Feb.16, 2011 p.18: "Notorious Telugu blood-sucker of rural

women glamourised".

DV Oct.1, 2010 p.21: "How to kill poor villagers through money-lending business: The rise of the new Bania blood-suckers", & p. 22: "Dacoits enter microfinance".

Brahminical bid to challenge Sikh sacred scriptures

GAJINDAR SINGH, EDITOR, SIKH STUDIES, GURDWARA SINGH SABHA, KANTHALA INDL. AREA, PH-II, CHANDIGARH - 160 002

There should never be allowed any challenge to the basic Sikh postulates. Despite bitter differences of opinions, the scriptures of other major religions are treated as sacrosanct; be it the Torah, the Koran, or the Hindu, Budhist, Jain and other sacred literature. It is therefore, sad that some smart-alecks in our community should try to raise doubts and question on each step to demonstrate their wit to build separate domains, claiming their particular version as the real sikhi over mainstream Sikhism.

BRAHMIN LOBBY

In fact, vision projecting an odd facet of the philosophy of Sikhism known to them over the rest.

The different interpretations being aired in India and abroad pose a serious threat to the purity of the Sikh doctrine which has been a unique innovation over the ancient dead-set assumptions, which reflected the level of experience, imagination and wisdom of those earlier times.

The Sikh sangat in Diaspora as well as the educated classes in India rue the version of sant-derasand most of our priests as totally influenced by the Brahmin lobby.

Hindu domination of Sikh values started with the state persecutions of Nanak Prastan after the times of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur when the gurdwaras came under control of Hindu priests. It is true that thesant-deras and the Sikh missionaries generally continue to toe that line, it is easy to repeat the usual Brahminic jargon. The common man in the villages and towns remains uninformed and spiritually dissatisfied.

EASY MONEY & LUXURIOUS LIFE

There is no scholarly research about the Sikh tenets in the so-called sant-deras except in a few exceptional cases. There are some, earnestly devoted to the Sikh faith, but they are awfully few and the demand for the learned discourses is overwhelming. The dera people have easy money and luxuries of life, modern gadgetry, expensive cars, lofty gurdwaras, flourishing kitchens quite different from the spirit and phenomenon of the simple guru-ke-langer and an expectant, eager audience in search of boons, not the truth.

Had these deras truly spread the message of the gurus, located as they are all over the Sikh sangats, there would have been tremendous allover growth. Our Gurus moulded common people, with all their shortcomings, into gurmukhs; self-confident and self-reliant; these deras churn bonded, captive souls in lasting servitude.

BID TO REVISE GURBANI

On the other hand, especially the Disapora scholars have endeavored to recast the gurbani message into a scientific shroud and to construe a new line of thought to dress up the Guru's word to suit the 21st century. It impresses at first sight to have thrown away the yoke of the traditional sant-deras. It also gives the educated classes a chance to pierce many traditional theories by new analysis. However, the first false step by these neo-look protagonists is their assumption that in its original form, the gurbanihas ceased to be effective and it needs to be differently interpreted. A cursory study would convince the hard critic that the message of the Guru Granth Sahib is not confined to a date, period, or place. It is universal, based on human experience and psychical phenomena.

SIKHISM NOT TEA-PARTY GOSSIP

Gurbani provides answers to all situations according to the mental and spiritual state of a person. They seem more eager to clinch centre stage by projecting sikhi negatively, spewing doubts than positively analysing the guru's message. It creates more chaos. Moreover, these scholars want to cut Sikhism to their relaxed life-style and to draw rules and regulations to suit requirements of the affluent consumer-oriented Western society and thereby act more as critics and advisors of the gurus, to reduce the Sikh doctrine to a sort of tea-house gossip, to accept what suits them and to drop what is inconvenient.

Our guru's core message was direct and simple: to earnestly discard evil thoughts, bad habits and wicked acts, and to adhere to spiritual and moral values even at the cost of sacrificing personal life, comforts, one's hearth, home and family. That was the condition set by Guru Nanak Dev to Guru Gobind Singh, to attract likely candidates into the Sikh orbit.

Anyone seeking exemptions or conditionally joining the party was not encouraged. The gurus themselves walked on that thorny path and the true Sikhs happily followed them. However, taking solemn vows was never meant to be end of the line, but a sense of belonging, a beginning to study and adopt high moral values, to break chains of wickedness and rise aloft.

There is no other faith in the world where the disciple goes to the extent of quizzing the Master and the very tenets of that religion. We have given enough licence to these Sikh scholars to our detriment. For the Sikh, the true disciple, the Guru and Gurbani must remain sacrosanct. It should be beyond the scope of critical reference. Personal views of scholars should never be allowed to encroach upon the Guru's word.

(Excerpts from the Editorial to the Sikh Studies journal of Jan-March 2011).

Intellectually honest Sikhs alone can save Sikhism

Sardar Gajinder Singh's editorial in the latest Abstract of Sikh Studies criticising the Brahminical efforts to distort and weaken the Sikh steel frame is great. Dalit Voice has been consistently supporting Sikhism which is proved from our arrest and imprisonment in Chandigarh Jail (1981) and also our support to Sant Bhindranwale movement and our editorial on the assassination of Indira Gandhi. We have published innumerable editorials and articles on Sikhism and had a big circulation in Punjab. Dalit Voice is known to all Sikh intellectuals. We spoke twice at your annual conference conducted by your own organisation at Chandigarh,.

All this is past story. Today, DV has become weak. Our circulation falling because Sikhism is under attack from Brahminism which has resorted to its age-old historical game of divide and rule to kill Sikhism and enslave Dalits. DV is caught in this fight between Sikhism and Dalits — beautifully managed by the Brahmin. We are deeply worried that neither the Sikh religious leadership nor the Sikh intellectuals are doing anything to halt this drift. We conducted a long Debate on the "Slow Death of Sikhism" also. The killing of a Dalit religious leader at Vienna, Austria, an year ago by the Brahminical RAW further aggravated the growing divide between the two. So much so we are being kicked from both sides.

After reading your editorial on this very subject, we are encouraged to write you to do something to save the situation. If right thinking people don't step in, Brahminical forces will swallow Sikhism and also destroy Dalits. Punjab is facing many serious problems. On one side its fertile agriculture is being destroyed, water denied, Dalits are brought from Bihar to upset the demographic composition of the state. Deras are financed and encouraged and lately the RAW itself was used to kill a Dalit saint to engineer Sikh-Dalit conflict. Because of this conflict Dalit Voice has lost circulation in Punjab.

Brahminism is eating into Sikhism because the rulers fear that the revolutionary Sikhs may join Muslims if any war breaks out. All these have to be discussed and the Sikhs made aware of this.

Please call a meeting of thinking Sikhs so that we can discuss all this. As one involved in the problems of the whole country and the world outside, we are deeply worried over what is happening in Punjab. Only honest intellectuals among Sikhs can save Sikhism - not political leaders — EDITOR.

Did Cong use 2G spectrum scam to armtwist DMK?

Karunanidhi gave a shocker to the Cong by pulling out of the UPA; but there is more to the move

Did Cong use 2G spectrum scam to armtwist DMK?

Tamil movie scriptwriter Muthuvel Karunanidhi was once known for giving plots and stories some last-minute twist and adding dollops of surprise. Pushing 88 summers, Karunanidhi seems to have not lost touch with his skills, if not in movies, at least in politics.

What made Karunanidhi, popularly called MK, suddenly pull the plug from the UPA government in Delhi on Saturday evening, catching the Congress unawares and sending poll-charged politics into a tailspin?

The Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam on Saturday decided to pull out of the Congress-led government at the Centre after talks between the two parties on seat-sharing for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections failed.

If insiders in the DMK are to be believed, the Congress tried to use the 2G Spectrum stick to make the DMK fall in line. With the scam money reaching dangerously and embarrassingly close to party-run TV channels and the DMK leaders' doorsteps, the Congress thought they could arm-twist Karunanidhi.

Did Cong use 2G spectrum scam to armtwist DMK?

It was this confidence that made the Congress not only demand 63 seats, up from 48 in the last elections, but also wanted to pick and chose the seats.

Another reason why the DMK president got rattled was Friday night's tie up between AIADMK's J Jayalalithaa and Captain Vijayakant's Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK). Soon after the meeting, Karunanidhi called back his leaders and sent out a terse message - that something has to be done.

With Jayalalithaa taunting Karunanidhi that he is heading a minority government and happy playing second fiddle to the Congress, MK could be no way seen to be bowing to the dictates of the Congress.

The DMK's decision to pull out of the seven-year-old successful alliance between the two parties under severe strain comes ahead of the April 13 polls when it faces a tough challenge from rival AIADMK which has already tied-up with actor Vijayakant's DMDK and Left parties.

With the DMK showing Congress its place, Karunanidhi has displayed that he is still the master, not a worn-out second fiddle.

Did Cong use 2G spectrum scam to armtwist DMK?

What shocked Karunanidhi was the fact that the Congress was 'demanding' seats when it should be 'asking', rather pleading.

That is why he said: "We are compelled to suspect that these are all efforts by Congress to push us out of the UPA. Under these circumstances we have to think whether to continue in the government. So we have decided to relieve ourselves from the government."

And another masterstroke from MK was to extend issue-based support to the UPA. With the Budget session on, the UPA will desperately need the support of the DMK to get key financial bills through. Every time the UPA is on the threshold of a crisis of survival, the DMK will be out with its political knife demanding its pound of flesh.

Karunandhi made it clear that while pulling out its six ministers from the Union Cabinet, the party would give issue-based support to the Manmohan Singh government during 'times of trouble'. But that would always be with a rider.

Did Cong use 2G spectrum scam to armtwist DMK?

With 18 MPs, the DMK is the second largest ally of the Congress in the UPA after Trinamool Congress which has 19 MPs.

Karunanidhi, who had last night accused the Congress of being unreasonable in its demand, also charged the ally of trying to push it out of the UPA.

The meeting of the party's high-powered committee presided over by him adopted a resolution to pull out of the government and to give issue-based support.

Apparently referring to the Congress' demand of 63 seats of its choice after agreeing to 60, he said the Congress stand does not help for an amicable poll accord.

The DMK -- Congress alliance swept all the 40 Lok Sabha seats including the lone Puducherry seat in the 2004 elections and won 28 seats in the 2009 general elections. The combine also won the 2006 Assembly elections, though DMK could not get a majority on its own.

Ahead of the crucial meeting of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam top brass in Chennai, the Congress on Saturday signalled that its seven-year-old alliance with the Dravidian party, would be saved.

"I can assure you, in our political relationship, we have sometimes some problems. We have the capacity to create problems and at the same time, solve them and it will be solved," Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters.

The statement came a day after it appeared that the alliance was breaking on the issue of seat-sharing for the Assembly polls with DMK chief M. Karunanidhi saying the party's high-level action committee would take a "proper decision" on the issue.

Senior DMK leaders will meet in Chennai on Saturday evening to chart out the next course of action, according to party MP T.R. Baalu.

In a statement in Chennai last night, Mr. Karunanidhi had asked whether it was proper for Congress, which had agreed for 60 seats earlier, to now demand 63 seats.

The Congress stand that it would decide on seats to be contested was highly improper, he had said.

The DMK and the Congress have held three rounds of discussions on seat-sharing for the April 13 Assembly polls, but no headway could be made due to differences between them.

Baalu does not rule out reviewing decision to pull out

Chennai: Senior DMK leader T R Baalu tonight indicated his party could review its decision to pull its ministers out of the Union Cabinet if the Congress relents on its stand over sharing of seats in the upcoming Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

Baalu does not rule out reviewing decision to pull out

Baalu also said the DMK's six Union ministers will hand over the resignations only after a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and that there is no move to fax their resignations right away.

"Definitely we will have a discussion if they(Congress) reconsider. If Congress agrees for 60 seats we will reconsider out decision(to pull out of Cabinet)," Baalu told reporters.

DMK supremo and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in a post-midnight statement said it was agreed that Congress will be given 60 seats. He also said the Congress demand for the constituencies of its choice was also "highly unfair and improper." Congress is said to be insisting for 63 seats. The strength of the Tamil Nadu Assembly is 234.

Baalu made it clear that the withdrawal of support stemmed only from problems over "seat sharing" and had nothing to do with the 2G Spectrum scam in which senior DMK leader and former Telecom minister A Raja is allegedly involved.

He also said that the decision taken at the meeting of the party's High Powered Committee has also been communicated to Congress President Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel and Defence Minister A K Antony.

Asked whether it was the end of the road for the seven-year-old DMK-Congress alliance, Baalu replied in the negative.

"We are all friends. We do not see the end of the road.

Though we have withdrawn ministers our friendship will continue forever." he said.

Bofors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name Bofors has been associated with the iron industry for more than 350 years.

Located in Karlskoga, the company originates from the hammer mill "Boofors" founded 1646. The modern corporate structure was created in 1873 with the foundation of Aktiebolaget (AB) Bofors-Gullspång. A leading Swedish steel producer by the early 1870s, Bofors expanded into weapons manufacture when steel produced via the Siemens-Martin process began to be used for gun manufacture. The company's first cannon workshop was opened in 1884. Bofors' most famous owner was Alfred Nobel, who owned the company from 1894 until his death in December 1896. Nobel played the key role in reshaping the former iron and steel producer to a modern cannon manufacturer and chemical industry participant. The powder manufacturer AB Bofors Nobelkrut, later an explosives and general organic-chemical producer, was created in 1898 as a wholly owned subsidiary. By 1911 AB Bofors-Gullspång had outcompeted, bought and closed down its Finspång Swedish competitor in cannon manufacture. The company's name was shortened to AB Bofors in 1919.

In 1999 Saab purchased the Celsius Group, then the parent company for Bofors. In September 2000 United Defense Industries (UDI) of theUnited States acquired Bofors Weapons Systems (the heavy weapons division), while Saab retained the missile interests.

Thus Bofors is today split in two parts:

The name Bofors is strongly associated with a 40 mm anti-aircraft gun. This particular automatic cannon was based upon a Bofors' design produced and was used by both sides during World War II. Thus, it is often simply called the Bofors gun. This gun saw service on both land and sea. It became so widely known that anti-aircraft guns in general were often referred to as Bofors guns. Another well-known gun made by the company was the Bofors 37 mm anti-tank gun, a standard anti-tank weapon used by a variety of armies early in the war. It was built under license in Poland and the USA and was also used in a variety of tanks, including the 7TP and M3A3 Stuart.

In recent years Bofors has lost much of its reputation in Sweden due to various suspect affairs,[citation needed] the most scandalous being the alleged but never proven kickbacks involved in securing a contract with the Indian Army in 1986.

AFSPA may go this year: Omar

Jammu: The Armed Forces Special Powers Act, granting immunity to the army and paramilitary forces in anti-insurgency operations, may go from some parts of Jammu and Kashmir this year, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Saturday.

AFSPA may go this year: Omar

"Militancy is constantly on the decline and if it continues in this fashion, I can assure you that the Disturbed Areas Act (DAA) and Armed Forces Special Powers Act may be removed from the state this year itself, what to talk of during the tenure of my government (till 2015)," Abdullah declared in the legislative assembly while replying to the motion of thanks on the governor's address to the joint session of the legislature on Feb 28.

Abdullah said the government has already removed 40 bunkers from the summer capital of Srinagar and also reduced the strength of Central Reserve Police Force by two battalions (approximately 1,200 personnel) and held out promise that "more would be reduced from Srinagar and other towns".

"Not only that, we are also planning to thin out the presence of the army from the built up areas in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.

The removal of AFSPA and DAA have become part of the hot political debate in Kashmir politics. While it has been a consistent demand of the ruling National Conference, main opposition Peoples Democratic Party and separatists, the army is opposed to withdrawal of AFSPA.

The army chief Gen. V.K. Singh in his observations has said that "AFSPA was needed for the anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir".

Abdullah also denounced the criticism that thousands have been arrested in the Kashmir Valley. "It's simply not true," he said.

"The truth is that 4,064 were arrested, of whom 3,900 are out on bail," he said.

CBI found nothing against me in searches: Kalmadi

Pune: Sacked CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Saturday claimed that the CBI officers, who conducted searches at his premises in the city recently, did not find anything incriminating against him.

CBI found nothing against me in searches: Kalmadi

"CBI officials came to my place. But what have they found? They could find only that is recorded in income tax returns filed by me. They have found nothing against me," the Congress MP, who returned last night from Bangkok, said while addressing party workers here.

Maintaining that he would cooperate with the investigating agency, probing the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the Delhi Games, Kalmadi said, "Everything is fine. I am ready for any enquiry and will answer all questions."

He said that he received letters of appreciation from all over the world following the successful hosting of the Commonwealth Games.

The Congress MP said the staging of CWG also led to improvement of Delhi as a city with creation of infrastructure.

He said he was not "missing" as speculated in a section of media and asserted that he would not do anything that would bring disrepute to Pune, the city which he represents in the Parliament.

Pandit, Ambani bet on India growth story

New Delhi: Two corporate heads, Vikram Pandit and Mukesh Ambani, on Friday predicted great things about India's growth story. Particularly, the recent stress on inclusive growth.

"Whichever way you look -- consumers, innovation, spending, globalisation -- India is at the centre of the thing," said Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit at an interaction with ICICI Bank's non-executive chairman, K V Kamath, at a meeting of the Instittute of International Finance.

At the same interaction, Reliance Industries' chairman, Anil Ambani, said India would be a $5-trillion economy from the present $1.2 trillion. "You may debate whether it will be 2022 or 2025, but India will definitely be a $5-trillion economy," he said. Kamath said he'd bet it would happen by 2022.

Both Ambani and Pandit laid stress on an inclusive growth agenda for India. Ambani said India was going to surprise the world in the next five-seven years in digital distribution of funds. "India is creating unprecedented infrastructure for digital distribution," he said, citing the government proposal on cash transfer of subsidies.

He said, however, that 15 million earning opportunties had to be generated in the next 15 years and it had to be mostly in agriculture. In manufacturing, India has to compete with automation, he added.

Pandit said much of the global system was migrating to emerging economies like India. Banks were adjusting to this new reality of the real economy. To a query on what would happen to New York and London if emerging market economies were to become the new financial centres, he said there'd be many new ones but New York and London would play their roles.

Pandit exuded confidence that the debt crisis in Europe would get resolved, but said there would be pain in the restructuring. In the US, the economy was starting to grow and momentum had to be maintained.

He said banks will have to be become banks again, referring to the global financial crisis when banks burnt their assets in toxic deals. He predicted corporate banks would rise again. The crisis in advanced countries would have a soft landing and debt overhang will be worked out.

"Having come to Citi after the crisis, I will only look ahead," he said.

Ambani said there was realisation that one had to produce goods and services that people valued. "You cannot continue building market cap on thin air," he said. He added a road map was needed for de-leveraging in advanced economies. "The excesses of 20 years cannot be solved in a few quarters," he said.

Ball now in the Congress court, says DMK

DMK leaves Cong stranded
KV Lakshmana, Hindustan Times
Chennai, March 05, 2011
First Published: 23:43 IST(5/3/2011)
Last Updated: 23:44 IST(5/3/2011)

If anger against the Congress was evident at the DMK headquarters in Chennai, the mood at the AIADMK camp appeared upbeat over the snapping of ties between the M Karunanidhi-led party and the Congress on Saturday.  The AIADMK and its allies believe the DMK-Congress break-up brightens their ele
ction prospects. The CPI(M), which has allied with the AIADMK this time, said: "They lost the battle even before it began."

The timing of the DMK shock treatment seems to have left the Congress without any ally for the polls on April 13.

The Congress last fought alone in 1989 and came third after the two Dravidian parties. Ever since, it has been riding with either the DMK or the AIADMK in subsequent elections.

However, a section of the Congress leadership in Tamil Nadu had pitched for going it alone in the polls this year, as they felt that association with 2G-spectrum-scam-tainted DMK would harm the party in the long run.

Moreover, going it alone is also what Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi supports. In fact, he had started programmes to rejuvenate the Youth Congress in Tamil Nadu.

However, the DMK knock could also end up nudging the Congress into reviving its ties with the AIADMK. But to accommodate the Congress, AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa will have to sacrifice the Left and longtime ally Vaiko's MDMK. The AIADMK has already given 41 seats to actor Vijayakant's DMDK.

For now, the Congress is ally-less in Tamil Nadu and will face an uphill task in the elections. It has been out of power in the state since the 1960s.

If the going will be tough for the Congress, the DMK too stands to lose the committed 8.4% vote bank of the Congress. In closely fought assembly polls, even a 2 % to 4 % vote share difference can alter the results dramatically.

In the last assembly elections, the collective share of the DMK alliance was 44.65% as compared to the AIADMK alliance total of 40.52%. Now, the AIADMK also has the 10% vote share of Vijaykant's party.

Meanwhile, last-ditch efforts are on to save the DMK-Congress alliance.
