Srinagar, March 29
Ahead of the meeting of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with his Pakistan counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani during the course of Cricket World Cup semifinal between India and Pakistan at Mohali in Punjab, the hardline Hurriyat Conference chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, has urged the two leaders not to ignore the Kashmir issue.

Addressing a public meeting at Humahama on the Airport road here today, Geelani warned the two leaders against "ignoring" the Kashmir issue while they engaged in formal and informal tomorrow. He said the two leaders should not to ignore the Kashmir issue during "cricket diplomacy" saying confidence between the two neighbouring countries could not be built without the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

Geelani held that an everlasting peace could not be established in the region without a final settlement of the issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state. "Kashmir (issue) cannot be ignored in any case," he said. Geelani also called for the boycott of the panchayat elections, which are scheduled to begin in phases from April 13.
