कन्नड़ विद्वान प्रो. एम एम कलबुर्गी की कट्टर धार्मिक तत्वों द्वारा की गयी हत्या के विरोध में लेखकों और बुद्धिजीवियों का प्रतिरोध अब समूचे देश में बढता जा रहा है. प्रसिद्ध कन्नड़ लेखक चंद्रशेखर पाटिल 'चंपा' ने कर्णाटक सरकार द्वारा उन्हें वर्ष २००९ में प्रदान किये गए उच्च सम्मान 'पम्पा अवार्ड' को वापस करने की घोषणा की है. अवार्ड वापस करने की घोषणा करते हुए श्री चंद्रशेखर पाटिल का कहना है कि-"This is my way of protesting the vitiating atmosphere prevalent in the country today stifling democratic debate, dissent, and freedom of expression. Kannada writer and journalist Linganna Satyampet was also found dead under mysterious circumstances in 2012 in Kalaburagi. We are not happy about the probe into that case as well. This is the least I can do as a writer to protest." प्रतिरोध के इस जज्बे को सलाम .
