on their return from Idinthakarai in solidarity with people protesting against

Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant

WHEN: 17 March, 2012. 10.30 a.m.

WHERE: Chennai Press Club, Wallajah Road

Background:

In the lead-up to the 1st anniversary of the Fukushima disaster, the Government of India heightened its propaganda against the peaceful protestors of Koodankulam by questioning their integrity, and alleging a foreign hand at play in the protests. The Government of India also hinted that they will use all means at their disposal to commission the unit in the face of opposition. Given the resolve of the protestors to not allow the plant to open, the Government's hints could only mean the use of violent force. The threats by the Government prompted people from around India to coalesce and lead a delegation to Idinthakarai to honour the 6 month long struggle and lend solidarity to it. The delegation that visited the dharna site included Admiral L. Ramdas, Achin Vanaik, Lalita Ramdas, Praful Bidwai, Justice (Retd) Kolse Patil and many other eminent citizens.
