U.S. man 'planned to cause havoc with car bomb, machine guns and explosives belt' --Sami Osmakac 'caught by undercover FBI agent' --'Former Kosovo resident wanted to bomb Tampa' --'Tried to get AK-47 and Uzi guns; and Al Qaeda flags' 09 Jan 2012 A 25-year-old U.S. immigrant allegedly developed a bomb plot to attack crowded locations with a car bomb, machine guns and other explosives. Sami Osmakac, of Pinellas County, Florida, allegedly bought explosives and guns from an undercover FBI agent, which were made unusable. The former resident of Kosovo told the agent last month that he wanted an AK-47-style machine gun and Uzi submachine guns, investigators said. [This particular false flag was thrust upon us to quiet those in 'certain quarters' who voice opposition to the NDAA's 'indefinite detention without trial of US citizens' provision. --LRP]

Feds: Man planned terrorism attacks in Tampa 09 Jan 2012 Federal agents over the weekend arrested a Pinellas Park man described as having extremist jihadist beliefs who wanted to blow up a target in Tampa and create "terror" in victims' hearts. Sami Osmakac, 25, was taken into custody after an FBI sting operation in which he tried to buy explosives, at least 10 grenades, Uzis and an AK-47, authorities said. He was charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

100 soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord on lockdown --They are not being allowed to go home until the investigation is complete. 09 Jan 2012 A company of soldiers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord were put on lockdown after officials discovered military equipment was missing. Since last Tuesday, about 100 soldiers with the 4th Stryker Brigade have been confined to one building on the base. Military police are investigating the disappearance of hundreds of pieces of weapon attachments they say were stolen, including rifle scopes and night vision goggles. A petition by a group called March Forward, a group of veterans and service members against war and racism, is being circulated to end the lockdown.

Gitmo's evil twin: Afghanistan slams torture in US-run Bagram jail [Bush's evil twin: Obama] 08 Jan 2012 The US military has been accused of abuse and torture at its notorious detention center in Afghanistan. Investigators say most detainees at Bagram prison are being held without charge or firm evidence of guilt. [Just like US citizens soon will be.] Inmates of the US-run prison outside Bagram Air Base north of Kabul complained of freezing cold, humiliating strip searches and being deprived of light, according to Gul Rahman Qazi, who led an investigation ordered by President Hamid Karzai.

Pakistanis working at Bagram airbase removed from service 09 Jan 2012 A number of Pakistanis working at the US-run Bagram airbase in Afghanistan have been removed from service by the US Army. A citizen of Peshawar, Asif Ali, who worked as manager at the US Army Engineers Corps, in a Facebook message to American Consulate General in Peshawar said that the FBI terminated the services of Pakistanis without giving any reasons, possibly due to tense relationship between the two countries.

US army testing cargo drone in Afghanistan 08 Jan 2012 The US military is testing a revolutionary new drone for its arsenal, a pilot-less helicopter intended to fly cargo missions to remote outposts. This is the first time a chopper version of a drone designed for transport has been used operationally. Two unmanned models of the Kaman K-MAX helicopters and a team of 16 company technicians and 8 Marines are conducting a 6-month evaluation program for the new craft at Camp Dwyer, a Marine Corps airfield in the Garmsir district of southern Helmand Province.

Car bomb attacks kill 15 in Iraq 09 Jan 2012 At least 15 people have been killed and dozens of others have been injured in two separate car bomb attacks in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The attacks targeted police officers as well as Shia pilgrims making their way to the holy city of Karbala for religious commemorations. According to Iraqi security sources, seven people were killed after an explosives-laden car detonated near a police vehicle in the northeast neighborhood of al-Shaab. Nineteen others were also injured in the blast.

Perry: 'I would send troops back into Iraq' 07 Jan 2012 Rick Perry said he would send U.S. troops back to Iraq at a Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire on Saturday. This is the not the first time that the Texas governor has been critical of President Obama's foreign policy in Iraq, but it is the first that he has suggested sending troops back after their withdrawal last month. Perry was bolder Saturday night on stage, citing Iran as a potential problem in Iraq.

Iran sentences CIA operative to death 09 Jan 2012 Iran has sentenced to death CIA operative Amir Mirzaei Hekmati, who was earlier arrested by Iran's intelligence forces on charges of committing acts of espionage on behalf of the US. The verdict was issued by Tehran's Revolution Court on Monday after the defendant was found guilty of collaboration with the US government and its intelligence agency, the CIA, against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mirzaei Hekmati was charged with attempting to infiltrate Iran's intelligence apparatus in efforts to implicate the Islamic Republic in sponsoring terrorism. The defendant was hired by the CIA in May 2009 to carry out espionage operations in Iran.

'US spies were to disrupt Iran polls' 08 Jan 2012 Iran's Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi says the spies recently arrested in Iran were plotting to implement US plans during upcoming Iranian parliamentary polls. Moslehi said on Sunday that the espionage agents were planning to disrupt the elections, using guidelines communicated to them from outside the country and generating disturbances through online social networking websites. Moslehi said the fifth columnists were arrested after their activities and liaisons were fully established by Iran's Intelligence Ministry.

S.Korea police investigating rumour of nuclear explosion in N. Korea 08 Jan 2012 The national police said on Saturday they have launched an investigation into an earlier market rumour about a nuclear explosion in North Korea, trying to determine if speculators had intentionally spread the false report to make profits. The Cyber Terror Response Center at the National Police Agency said the investigation was under way upon request from the Financial Supervisory Service, the nation's financial watchdog. The rumor spread on Friday that a light-water reactor had exploded in North Korea and was leaking radioactive materials that could reach South Korea.

Hello, Pot? This is Kettle... US expels Venezuela diplomat after cyber-attack allegations 09 Jan 2012 Venezuela's consul general in Miami was ordered Sunday to leave the United States after allegations surfaced that she discussed possible cyber-attacks on U.S. soil. [?!?] The State Department said it had declared the diplomat, Livia Acosta Noguera, persona non grata and given her until Tuesday to leave the country.

Israel treating hackers like terrorists 08 Jan 2012 The message from Deputy Foreign Minister Dany Ayalon came after a self-defined "Saudi hacker" from a cabal known as "group-xp" published details of more than 6,000 Israeli credit cards online that "The US has announced that any attack on its cybernetic space would be considered a declaration of war and that it would go as far as firing missiles to respond to such an attack. This is a good criterion for us all". Israel said that it will respond to cyber-attacks in the same way it responds to violent terrorist acts, by striking back with force against hackers who threaten the Jewish state.

Deputy FM threatens 'forceful response' to cyber attacks --Ayalon hints at aggressive Israeli reaction to online leak of credit card numbers belonging to thousands of Israelis. 'US announced that any attack on its cybernetic space would be considered a declaration of war,' he tells cultural forum 07 Jan 2012 After an Israeli student claimed to have uncovered the identity of a hacker who leaked the personal details of thousands of Israelis, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon said Israel will view such cyber attacks as "acts of terror" and will "retaliate forcefully against hackers who undermine Israel's cybernetic sovereignty."

'Anonymous' hacks U.S., NATO data 09 Jan 2012 The hacker group "Anonymous" exposed thousands of email addresses and passwords belonging to U.S. and NATO officials that it obtained due to a security breach. The online hacktivist group claimed it had stolen intelligence analysis firm Stratfor's confidential client list, which included the U.S. Defense Department, Army, Air Force, law enforcement agencies, top security contractors and technology firms like Apple and Microsoft, over Christmas. Among the huge trove of private information exposed by the group are email addresses/personal information belonging to 221 British military officials, 242 NATO staff and 19-thousand U.S. military personnel.

Stratfor hack list includes hundreds of UK military users 09 Jan 2012 Anonymous's hack of the US global intelligence firm Stratfor yielded the details of hundreds of UK military officials, according to analysis of the breach. The 'LulzXmas' Stratfor hack took place on Christmas Eve last year. The US Cyber Consequences Unit, a Washington-based research organisation that analysed the leaked details for The Guardian, found the list of victims to include 221 British military officials and 242 Nato staff members, the newspaper reported on Sunday. Seven Cabinet Office officials were also on the list, as were 23 MPs and peers, 45 Foreign Office officials, 14 Home Office officials, 67 police officials and two royal employees.

Feds: $45-million Homeland Security Cook County initiative 'failure' 09 Jan 2012 (IL) Project Shield was supposed to make citizens safer. But in the end, the $45-million Homeland Security program more resembled a disaster, wasting taxpayers' dollars and failing to make a single citizen more secure. The failed Cook County initiative was replete with equipment that failed to work, missing records and untrained first responders according to a report by the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The report, to be released Monday but obtained by The Sun-Times and NBC5 News, found "millions of tax dollars may have been wasted."

Six arrested in anti-police march in Oakland, California 08 Jan 2012 Six people were arrested, one for carrying a quarter-stick of dynamite [?!?], during a late-night protest march through downtown Oakland, California, marked by various acts of vandalism, police said on Sunday. The unrest Saturday night followed Twitter messages calling for an anti-police rally by individuals identifying themselves as supporters of Occupy Oakland, a local offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations against economic inequality. Organizers said the march was aimed at protesting what they called excessive force by the Oakland Police Department.

U.S. moves toward legal action against Swiss bank: sources 09 Jan 2012 U.S. authorities are moving toward taking legal action against Wegelin & Co, which could lead to an indictment of one of Switzerland's last pure private banks, on charges that it enabled wealthy Americans to evade taxes, according to two persons with knowledge of the case. Negotiations in the case have reached a critical stage, with an indictment possible though the bank is seeking a deferred prosecution agreement, which would be less damaging. The outcome depends on how prosecutors, the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Treasury Department agree to treat the matter, the sources said. [No worries for the bank: Obama caves to his corpora-terrorist overlords every time.]

Penalties suggested for future Connecticut outages 09 Jan 2012 Utilities should be penalized for inadequate responses to natural disasters as with the power outage that paralyzed Connecticut after a freak October snowstorm, a state panel recommended on Monday. Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy created the Two Storm panel to help avoid a repeat of the failures that left 880,000 homes without power - some for nearly two weeks - after the snowstorm just before Halloween. Two months earlier, 800,000 customers lost power when Tropical Storm Irene swept through the state.

Romney attacked over record as 'job creator' at Bain Capital 09 Jan 2012 For months, Mitt Romney has seldom been challenged on his claim that his leadership at Bain Capital LLC offers evidence that he knows how to create jobs. That has ended as his Republican rivals are accusing him of exploiting companies and firing workers in a quest to make millions. "Those of us who believe in free markets and those of us who believe that, in fact, the whole goal of investment is entrepreneurship and job creation, would find it pretty hard to justify rich people figuring out clever, legal ways to loot out a company," former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich told reporters in Manchester, New Hampshire, yesterday, ahead of the state's Jan. 10 presidential primary. [Well said, except he didn't need the word 'out' after 'loot.' <g> And, that is exactly why the lamestream media is pushing Romney/Obusha - two Wall Street trolls/Reichwingers cut from the same cloth.]

Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria From the Fukushima Nuclear Accident? By Dr. Douglas Fields  09 Jan 2012 Bacteria are notorious for developing resistance to antibiotics through rapid mutation and natural selection. Radiation is a sure way to stimulate mutations. Could the radiation that will be contaminating the environment surrounding the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant for hundreds of years produce bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics? Researchers, Shigeyuki Nakanishi and colleagues reporting in the February 1, 2012 issue of the journal Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety, have performed experiments to find out.

Thin ice jeopardizes polar bears in Manitoba 08 Jan 2012 Hundreds of polar bears in northeastern Manitoba may face an increased risk of starvation due to delayed ice formation along the western coast of Hudson Bay, conservationists say. Higher-than-normal temperatures have prevented ice from forming in the region, putting it three to four weeks behind schedule, according to the Canadian Ice Service, a division of Environment Canada. As a result, minimum ice cover there is the lowest since 1971, Canadian Ice Service forecaster Luc Desjardins said. Formation of sea ice is critical for polar bears, which use it as a platform for catching seals and other marine mammals.
